Movie Review : 127 Hours (2010)

Calling all the adrenaline junkie, extreme sport lover and mountain climber out there! If 'Man VS Wild' is not scary enough for you or made you want to go to wild life even more, maybe after seeing this movie, it will change your mind a little bit. Well at least to me, it does. Me, the one who rarely camping or even climb a mountain. Another lovely movie by Danny Boyle the Oscar winner for Best Director for his movie 'Slumdog Millioner' who's my friend think that doesn't deserve it (he still hold his gruge anyway) title '127 Hours'

As you probably already hear and read the real story about Aron Ralston being trapped for 127 hours in a canyon because his hand is stuck with a giant rock. Now visually you can see how it is the things going down. From the morning that he packed his things to go canyoneering alone until how he got trapped. For me it's very lovely, you can see that aron ralston is a man that really likes extreem sports, climbing and exploring canyon. He's very friendly too, you could see that when he met two college girl that lost and he helped them by showing the way to get to the place that they wanted. Then after that his luck ran out, his hand got stuck in a rock. For me this movie is more emotional than drama movie, especially when he have to cut his own hand, I nearly cry. So sad. and brave.
I really love how Danny Boyle build our suspense little by little. Like from the minute Aron got stuck, first he didn't think it was a big deal but then when he realize he can't get out he scream for help, after that he realize again that no one would hear him and that's when the real adventure begin. Aron start going crazy but by using his imagination and memory he's trying to still hold control of his mind.
Danny Boyle chose to colaborate with his fellow oscar winner A.R. Rahman to arrange the music, and that's is a great decision. I really like the songs that he chosses.
For the leading actor, James Franco, it is a really step up of his acting career. He really have to explore himself because he's alone in this movie. He can capture a desperate man cos got stuck, a frustrated man cos his time is running out, a man that feel guilty about very single thing that he does before he went canyoneering, a man that just realize what he got in his whole life. Very good acting, really love him. No wonder he could got nominated into Golden Globe and Oscar for best actor.

So overall I give this movie 4,5 stars out of 5. Hopefully James Franco could win an Oscar eventhough the other nominee is really good too.

Movie Review : Blue Valentine (2010)

Ryan Gosling. What is the first though that come to your mind when hearing that name? Mine would be The Notebook. That sad sad love story just really can not be forgoten. He and Rachel McAdams become  one hot real life couple and win best kiss on MTV Movie Awards. Now he's back with brand new drama sad love story and with new love interest starring Michelle Williams.
Blue Valentine is about a couple and on the edge of seperation, it's all because the husband, Dean ( Ryan Gosling) is an alcoholic that too comfortable with his life, think that everything that he have is enough and it's everything that he ever wanted. By thinking like that he starting to irritate his wife, Cindy (Michelle Williams) who one thing that she ever wanted is to have a different lives that her mother, she didn't really want to fall in love because she scared to have a family then ended up like her mother. But then something happen that change her mind and her life.
Basicly Blue Valentine is sad love story about two people that at first really falling in love then life happen. They start to grow apart, have differences in life goals and there's always someone who want more than the other. For a few minute after I watched the movie, I'm started to think Ryan Gosling repeating his role in the notebook. There's a few scene to that looks like in The Notebook too, like the one that Dean treat to jump if Cindy didn't tell the secret that she wants to tell, it's just like when Ryan Gosling asking Rachel McAdams to go out with him. But from acting, Ryan Gosling in here is far much better than in The Notebook. You can see that he more grown up, really exploring his emotion. No wonder he got Golden Globe nominee for this role, but tooooooo bad didn't make it in Oscar nomination.
For Michelle Williams who starting to play in serious movie (Dawson's Creek really doesn't count) her acting is very total. You can see that in some scene that made this movie become rated R, no but seriously her acting is really good. She can capture a wife that had enough with his husband because she want more, she want a better life, happier life not this steady life that she have. For her role she got nominated on Golden Globe too bad had to lose to Natalie Portman but she got another chance in Oscar for the same nomination which is 'Best Actress'.

Overall I'm gonna give this movie 3 stars out of 5. All because Ryan and Michelle acting really good and convincing and that steamy sexy sex scene that make them got nomimee on 2 precious awards.

Movie Review : Buried (2010)

Just from reading the title maybe you already knew what kind of movie is this. Yes it's about a man how trapped in some small place. Kinda reminded me with Colin Farrell's 'Phone booth', but if in 'Phone booth' the main character taking hostage in a phone booth while talking with the kidnapper and he did it because to give lesson to colin farrell. In 'Buried' who played by Ryan Reynolds, he got kindapped and buried in coffin somewhere in the desert with only companied by one blackberry (does it has to be blackberry anyway?), a lighter, a flash light, two glow in the dark stick and a snake! what a lovely company from that animal.
Watching this movie for almost one and a half hour does not boring to me and it's kinda intense. You should know that from the beginning through the end you will only see one face, which is Ryan Reynolds face nad some voices over the telephone. Thank god he have good looking face and convencing acting so it could make us believe that he's really desperate, frustrated and slowly become hopeless. I like the way Rodrigo Cortés, the director, taking angle and work the camera so we can see how small the coffin is and try not to keep us bored eventhough the setting and the actor only one in there.

overall im gonna give this movie : 3.5 star out of 5, because the acting and the story plus the suprising ending (spoiler much)

The 68th Golden Globe Winner

yeah yeah I know, not all of my prediction is come true and even worse, my favourite movie is losing, big time! If this is a real bet, I would lose a lot of money. Lets just get to the point and lets twist my pain even more, here's a list of tonight (or morning here) winner :

my prediction 'Black Swan'
Winner of Best Motion Picture - Drama : The Social Network

When I heard this movie is the winner, I'm totally gone mad! Oh come on people! Black Swan is so much better that this! From the story, the cast, the setting but why? why?!! This Year suppose to be about the glamour ballerina not about some cunning & greedy FB CEO. Hopefully this didn't happen again on Academy Award.

my prediction : The Kids Are All Right
Winner of Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical : The Kids Are All Right

Yeeeeaaaahhhh! I got this one right! I knew they're gonna win. I really love the story, it's just like watching Little Miss Sunshine all over again, calming yet full of drama.

my prediction : James Franco (127 hours)
Winner of Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama : Colin Firth

baaahhh too bad I got this one wrong, I kinda new his gonna win but I'm wishing that maybe they will give chance to James Franco but it's all right, maybe next time.

my prediction : Natalie Portman (Black Swan)
Winner of Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama : Natalie Portman

YEaaaaahhhh! That baby bring good luck to her, she's glowing and she's winning, hip hip horay!

my prediction : Johnny Depp (Alice In Wonderland)

Winner of Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy : Paul Giamatti

Honestly I haven't seen his movie, maybe his acting is better that Johnny Depp who best known played crazy person.

my prediction : Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right)
Winner of Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy : Annette Bening

Another one correct prediction.

my prediction : Jeremy Renner (The Town)
Winner of Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture : Christian Bale

Okay I haven't seen the fighter too but maybe just maybe his acting is really better than jeremy. Since Hurt Locker his acting is been improving actually.

my prediction : Mila Kunis (Black Swan)
Winner of Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture : Melissa Leo

wow I really didn't see this one coming. Mila Kunis acting is soooo perfect! or at least give this one to Helena Bonham Carter. You could see the dissapointment in her face when they didn't say her name.

my prediction : Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan)
Winner of Best Director : David Fincher

Dispite the story that I really didnt like, his movie actually good but not as good as black swan!

three out of nine, that kind sucks huh! but it's okay I still have another award to predict and if you want to see my other prediction is this bad or not you could check out my other blog :nlifeascouchpotato.tumblr.com

68th Golden Globe Movie Winner Prediction

only hours away from the first big awards this year. The 68th Golden Globe Award gonna air in Indonesia on star world at 8.00 am. Oh I really wish that I could see it live but I gotta work so my friend, fellow movie freak will fill me in the winners. But before the main show I make a little prediction that based on my personal opinion (and favourite), hopefully most of them are come true, so here we go :

Best Motion Picture - Drama :

BLACK SWAN - I have to type them all caps cos I really love this movie and it's really good so they really deserve to win, big time!

Best Director :

Darren Aronofsky - His work just so amazing, the cast, the story, just really perfect together. One fine art.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama :

Natalie Portman - the associaton really have to give appreciation for her hard work as ballet dancer, and her little "action" with her castmate, fellow nominator Mila kunis.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama :

James Franco - it's about time he win some award for his hard work. Being trap for hours on a cliff isn't easy so... please win franco.

Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical :

The Kids Are All Right - what a great movie, slowly drag our emotion into the story definitely winner!

Best Performance by an Actress in Motion Picture - Comedy :

Anette Bening - just love her act in the movie. Julianne I love urs too but hers just more.

Best Performance by an Actor in Motion Picture - Comerdy :

Johnny Depp - I like his act on Alice in Wonderland but his nomination on The Tourist is one big joke! and actually I like to see Gyllenhall win but it's kinda too soon.

Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture :

Mila Kunis - she really have to win, just like natalie have to win in best actress. Their collaboration just perfect!

Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture :

Jeremy Renner - eventhough I actually really like to see Andrew Garfield win but then again he's still too young and too soon so I think Jeremy should win this one.

That's all I can predict for now, it's all about the movie nomination. For the television series prediction you could check out my other blog : lifeascouchpotato.tumblr.com

Movie Review : Nothing But TheTruth (2008)

Yeah yeah I know this is old movie. I mean it came out on 2008 but I just watch it now. If it's not because my friend chose this movie, I probably never watch it anyway. But turns out this movie is really good.
For you who probably never hear or know the movie before ( Like I did 6 hours ago) Nothing But The Truth is a political journalist name Rachel Armstrong played by lovely Kate Beckinsale, who wrote an articel about the President who ignored the findings of a covert CIA operative,  Erica Van Doren played by Vera Farmiga, when ordering air strikes against Venezuela whom he believe involve in his assassination attempt. Because of that leak information, Rachel forced to reveal her main
source. Then come the prosecutor played by Matt Dillon, who will do everything he can to break
Rachel's silent.Anytkind of lawsuits, treats even jail time won't chance a thing. But when her
marriage, motherhood, empathy and nationality being question, will it change her mind?

It's been a long time too since I watch some political movie. Like a destiny, this morning
I watched 'The Sum of Our Fear' and later this afternoon I watch this movie, two political
movie in one day HAHA. So after watching this movie, I like it very much! the story is
so simple and every meaningfull, how this journalis stand by her believe and her promise
eventhougt bad things happen to her because of that. But the plot is a little bit slow, but
what suprise me more is the ending. Kate Beckinsale play it very well as a strong journalis
and Matt Dillon always good playing jackass.

Movie Review : The Tourist (2010)

Happy new year 2011 people! In this very new day in new year I decided to go check out the movie that unbelievably got nominated on golden globe. So basicly the tourist is about some unlucky tourist played by Johnny Depp, who got stuck in the middle of problem because of one beautiful lady played by the one and only Angelina Jolie who not only in movie but also in real life could cause problem that.

So after watching it, i say the movie Booooriiiinnnnggg. I mean like the story is so unimportant, just shallow. It's like action movie with no action at all, drama movie with less drama. The story is only go round and round about searching this Alexandre something who stole money from british mob. I mean, come on man it's not that important, not threatening world peace anyway. And the ending, I know maybe the director want some twisted, suprising ending but it just not, totally goes the opposite.
The combination of the cast actually pretty good, but Angelina Jolie already play this kind of role so many times, if only she dare to take serious kind of movie not action. Johnny Depp to already play this kind of role. They just should try something new.

From scale 1 to 5, im gonna give this movie 3 star. It's  not that worth watching but if good to watch Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in one movie together.
