Movie Review : The Art Of Getting By (2011)

I've been waiting for this movie to come out (on "unofficial" dvd of course) since the first time I watched the trailer. I instantly falling in love with Freddy Highmore character, he's unique and have his own mind about life, I just really into that kind of character. I don't know how many times I watched the trailer over and over again until 2 weeks ago I found it. It's just like finally found the needle in a haystack. So happy, I ran home and watched it.

For a quick info, The Art Of Getting By is about a boy named George played by all grown up and turns to be very handsome, Freddy Highmore. George got his own interpretation about life and all that happen it in. He thinks that everything is meaningless because someday we all gonna die, so whats the point of working very hard if in the end we're not gonna bring it when we die (that's a good point anyway). So basicly he just live day by day ordinarily until one day he met Sally played by pretty woman's niece Emma Roberts. As their friendship grew, George starts to rethink about things that he do and find the meaning of it. I guest from there you know where this is going, right? so let's just go to the review then.

From the character, I totally in love with George and his mind. The way he thinks life is meaningless, pointless, dont know what we're doing here on earth but still feeling alive is amaizing. After all that thought, never crossed his mind to take his own life eventhough he thinks that way. Basicly he isn't depressed or stressed, just skeptic and it really got me. I spend all day thinking about George thought after watching this movie. And the storyline really helps you see how George shape his mind and the changes that happen in it, really simple and totally focus on the character. Freddy Highmore can capture a tortured soul, heavy minded boy that enjoys life just as he pleased. But the one that I dont get is Sally. I think the reason that she's here is not strong enough. They pictured it like she can make George change his mind but only because of her present and her friendship, I really wish Sally have her own opinions that really really could make George do that. Sometimes they pictured Sally like somekind of girl that wishy washy, don't know what she wants. And Emma Roberts really do it very well. Eventhough in this movie the main actors are still young but they played it very good and the chemistry is excellent.

Sooooo without furhter a do, I would like to give this movie 5 stars out of 5. Maybe if you like teenage drama that not cheesy and to many dillema you could check this one out.
